Sharks are cartilaginous fishes that are ovoviviparous.

Explanation:

In sharks the eggs are fertilised inside the uterus, which is actually a modified part of the oviduct. A shark has two uterus. The eggs hatch inside of the shark and the juvenile grows there itself before emerging out as a new shark.

In most fish, large numbers of eggs and sperm are dispensed into the water and eggs are fertilized outside of the body. Mortality is high.
