For a chemical compound...

Explanation:

Suppose,a compound is #color(red)(X_aY_b#...

Now you have to determine mass fraction...

Suppose the atomic weight of #X# and #Y# are respectively #m_1# and #m_2#...
We can determine the total mass of the compound #X_aY_b# to be #{(m_1xxa)+(m_2xxb)}# unit.

Now you have to determine the mass fraction of the element #X#:-
The mass of the element #X# in the compound is #(m_1xxa)#
#color(red)(ANS...#
The mass fraction of the element #X# in the compound #X_aY_b# is #(((m_1xxa))/{(m_1xxa)+(m_2xxb)})#

Similarly,for the element #Y# it is #(((m_2xxb))/{(m_1xxa)+(m_2xxb)})#

For complex compounds you can follow the same process...

Hope it helps...
Thank you...
