Baldomero Olivera is a chemist working in US, originally from Philippines. His early research was on E. coli DNA ligase.
He initiated the identification and characterization of the biologically active toxic peptides found in the venoms of predatory marine cone snails, included under genus Conus.
Cone snails are members of class gastropoda under phylum mollusca.
