He was the son of the Prince of Wales (who was the son of George II of England). He became heir after the Prince of Wales died and King after George II died.

George the III became King in 1760 and became controversial after the 7 years War (1756 to 1763). He ruled until 1814 which included . the American Revolutionary War (1775 to 1783) most of the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812 in North America. His dealings with the American colonists were problematic preceding the American Revolutionary War.

He was also King of the United Kingdom after 1801.

He also had periodical mental health issues during his rule possibly due to a genetic problem. He had a very long rule for the time and a great many world events happened during it.
