Given that :Stephenie has $84 less than three times as much as Erin.

#=> y= 3x - 84#----- Let this be equation(1)

And, Together they have $132

#=> #x+y= 132# ------------Let this be equation(2)

Substituting the value of y from equation (1) in equation (2), we have:

(2) #=> x+ (3x-84) = 132#

#=> x+3x- 84 = 132#

#=> 4x = 132+84#

#=> x= 216/4#
