Part of the difficulty is that these distances are often expressed in AU (astronomical units) where one AU is the average distance between the sun and earth. Please note all planets travel in elliptical orbits so these figures are for mean distances, for instance the Earth is about 3 million km closer to the Sun in December than in June due to this.
