An opportunistic species is one that that can take advantage of many resources. They tend to reproduce rapidly.

On opportunistic species is also called an r-selected species because its growth is mostly affected by its ability to reproduce. An r-selected species has a high growth rate and produces lots of offspring. Most of these offspring will die before they reach maturity.
