Explanation:

The liver is the main chemical factory of our body, and SO important that you won't survive without it. Try doing the same with the brain...

In case of ALF (Acute Liver Failure) the liver isn't removed, but collapses to a state of minimal functionality. It has a mortality rate of over 80-85%. That doesn't mean the other 15-20% will come through unscathed: You will end up in hospital in the ICU, in a delirious, if not vegetative state.

ALF is diagnosed when 80-90% of liver functionality is lost.
Amongst others, it usually leads to a buildup of #NH_3#/#NH_4^+# (Ammonia) in the bloodstream, causing hepatic encephalopathy in the brain. Hence the delirous (delusional) state.

It goes without saying that with NO liver function (by complete removal of the liver) you don't stand a chance.....
