The solute is that which is dissolved in the solvent.

Given that we are not changing the solute's quantity, changing the volume of solvent present will render a change in total volume of solution. Hence, it will make the solution more or less concentrated if we subtract or add solvent, respectively.

If we boil off some of the solvent (which is done in the lab, sometimes), the concentration increases.
