Diabetes is a disease associated with frequent urination. The cause of which could be distinctly different:
- either, increased blood sugar and excretion of sugar with urine, hence along with a lot of water
- or, decreased absorption of water from collecting ducts of kidney, hence there is excretion of a lot of dilute urine
First is due to insufficient secretion of insulin hormone from pancreas, or due to damage/degeneration of insulin receptors on cells' membrane. The disease is referred to as Diabetes mellitus.
Second is due to decreased/insufficient release of vasopressin hormone (=anti diuretic hormone) from posterior pituitary. The disease caused is called Diapedes insipidus.
