The edges of the continents and edges of tectonic plates are not the same. The continents are only the visible peaks of larger sections of the earth's crust known as tectonic plates.

Explanation:

Looking at the fifteen major tectonic plates we can see some unusual groupings of continents within some of them.

In contrast, there are some unexpected divisions of continents between other plates.
