Magnets can attract other metals as well, most notably nickel.

Explanation:

"Magnetism" is an effect caused by the alignment of atoms in certain materials that reinforces a "polarization" of their relative atomic charges. It can be a natural state or induced by an electrical current.

Other materials that are not "magnets" themselves can be "magnetized" by a magnet. That means that the application of a magnet to the material (such as iron) causes a temporary alignment of that materials atoms also, again, in an arrangement that induces a "magnetic" polarity.

From there it is just the attraction of opposite magnetic poles that provides the observed effect.

Magnetic fields strongly attract all ferromagnetic substances.

Therefore, Magnets can attract Fe, Ni, Co and all other ferromagnetic substances.
