Neutralization is when an acid and a base react to form products that are neutral in pH, like water.

Explanation:

For example,

#HCl+NaOH->H_2O+NaCl#

Hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide mix to make water and salt.

Hydrochloric acid will have a very acidic and low pH, let's say of 2.0.
Sodium hydroxide will have a basic and high pH, let's say 12.0.

When these two mix together, the reaction is neutralized so that water is formed (of a neutral pH of 7.0) and salt.

The products will not be perfectly neutral pH, but definitely less harmful than the reactants before the reaction was performed.
