You could seperate it by decimals and whole numbers if that helps.

So find what #-5+(-4) #is, which is the same as #-5-4#. It should be #-9#.

Now lets do the decimals. Find out what #(-0.8)+(-0.45)# is. This is the same as #(-0.8)-0.45# This equals to #-1.25#

Add it together: #-9+(-1.25 )or -9-1.25=-10.25#
