Concave lens/Diverging lens

This is because the shape of the lens is concave (You will have to memorize this, unfortunately).

This lens is also called a diverging lens. As you can see in the diagram, the light rays are shown to be diverging outwards.

This is a concave lens.

Concave lenses are thicker at the top and bottom but thinner at the middle. Rays of light that pass through the lens are spread out.
