But wait, there's nothing in that spot!

Here's the thing, when you are looking for a group that is between 1 and 8, you skip the middle elements (Known as the transition metals) and count.

You can see what I mean in this periodic table:

If you skip the middle elements and count across 3 columns and down 3 rows, you can see the element Aluminium(#Al#).
