What is Rf in chromatography?

The retardation factor, a value used in the laboratory. It's used to measure certain properties such as polarity, or separate pigments in plants, among other things.

It's basically a ratio of the distance traveled by the molecule of interest relative to the total distance of the solvent phase.

It's a pretty simple concept that's overly convoluted by some people.
