Spain

Explanation:

When Spain gained its independence and freedom from Muslim rule in 1492 the reaction was to expel the Muslims and Jewish people from the country.

From 711 to 1492, Spain had been ruled by the Muslim over rulers.
The Christians were treated as second class citizens, under Sharia law. After over 700 years of being abused and mistreated under Muslims rule, the Catholic rulers wanted to established a theocratic government and country.

Muslims and Jews were forced to renounce their faith and become Christians to be able to remain in Spain. The Christian rulers feared that the Muslims would try to reestablish their political control of the nation if they were allowed to remain as there was no separation of religion and politics under Muslim law. The Jews were also forced to become Christians in order to create a theocratically pure Christian country.

All people other than Catholic Christians had to leave the nation. An inquisition was formed to ensure that any conversion to the Catholic faith was real.

The 700 years of rule by Muslim law explains the excesses of the Inquisition and explosions of Muslims and Jews. There is a difference between an explanation and a justification.
