You're right about epithelial tissue covers surface of body but skin is not composed of merely this tissue.

Explanation:

Skin is an organ, actually largest organ of our body primarily made up of two types of tissues #"connective and epithelial tissues"#. Skin is composed of two layers #"dermis & epidermis"#. The outermost layer i.e epidermis contains consists of stratified squamous epithelial cells#(90%)# #to# make up epithelial tissue. Basal cells and melanocytes are also present in epidermis.Epidermis has no blood vessels.

While the layer next to epidermis i.e dermis is made up of loose connective tissue, blood vessels, nerves, hair follicles, smooth muscle, glands and lymphatic tissue.
