Explanation:
You can draw them out, making sure that you join the two vectors so that the tip of one (the arrow end) touches the tail of the other. The order in which you do this doesn’t matter as addition is commutative. You must also make sure your arrows are straight, scaled correctly (you can’t choose so it fits nicely on your paper, but bigger is better) and that you use a protractor to make certain the angles are correct.
You can also do it algebraically by resolving the vectors in two perpendicular directions and adding the components of each one together. The vector sum is then just the hypotenuse of the larger triangle sides you have drawn.
Method (a) is simpler to start with, but (b) is quicker once you are confident! Try (a) and let me know how you get on.
