A purse contains $2.45 in dimes and quarters. There are two more than twice as many dimes as there are quarters. How many of each coin are in the purse?

Call the number of quarters #n#, then the number of dimes is #2n+2#. (two more than twice as many). Now, #2.45=245 cents, each quarter is 25 cents and each dime is 10, so:

#25n+10(2n+2)=245#
#25n+20n+20=245#
#45n=225#
#n=5.4#
