When a moving bus stops all of a sudden, you fall in front not on back, and when a bus start from rest, you fall back or better to say upper part of your body tends to fall back.

The reason is explained with the help of the concept of INERTIA.

When the bus is at rest, your whole body is also at rest. Now,when the bus starts moving, your lower part of body, being in contact with the bus, achieves the motion quickly, but during this process, the upper part of your body didn't attain that motion as fast as your lower part, and as a result it tries to hold its original position at rest, due to inertia of rest. As a result, untill it receives the required motion, your upper part tends to fall backwards.

Same thing happens, when the moving bus suddenly accelerates.

On the other hand, when the bus is moving, and all of a sudden it applies brake to stop, the lower part of your body being in contact with the bus, stops along with it,but the upper part tries to move forward to maintain its motion, due to its inertia of motion, and falls in front.
