See below.

Explanation:

In the early 1930s Mao and his co-commander of the time Zhu made a list of Rules for Soldiers: "The Three Main Rules of Discipline and Eight Points of Attention. It was also turned into a Marching song during the Long March.

The Rules:
Obey orders in all your actions
Don't take a needle or a piece of thread from the people.
Turn in everything you capture.

The points of attention:
Speak politely
Pay fairly for what you buy.
Return everything you borrow.
Pay for any damage.
Don't strike or swear at people.
Don't damage Crops.
Don't take liberties with women.
Don't mistreat captives.

By the end of The Long March the Red Army disciplined force. They of course killed or drove away the Land owners and redistributed the land to the peasants. Sun Tsu would have approved of these rules.

It was a very difficult life of the average Chinese person and to be well treated by an occupying army was a relief. To gain from it a blessing.

Mao and Zhu De set up in the Province of Jiangxi in 1929 and were successful in creating a Soviet enclave until they were forced out by Chiag Kai-shek forces in 1934. The Long March began.
