The Noble gases are a group of elements which occur as single atoms in nature.

Explanation:

For a gas to occur as a single atom it has to be an element.

The Noble gases are elements which consists of atoms which do not normally react with other atoms. The reason for this being that their outer electron shells are full and they don't have valence electrons to form molecular bonds.

The Noble gasses are Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon and Radon.

The only other elements which are gases at Earth temperatures are Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Fluorine and Chlorine. Each of these is reactive and bond, usually in pairs, to form molecular gases.
