Most types of Cancer have four stages. These are written in Roman figures

Number of staging system of Cancer use TNM system. This is divided in 4 stages. Numbered from 1 to 4. Doctors write the stage down in Roman figures.
Stage I is isolated cancer and IV a cancer which has spread to the limit.
The stages are based on size of a tumor, whether invaded adjacent organs, how many lymph nodes are spread, and if it has appeared in distant locations.
The TNM system stands for Tumor, Node and Metastasis. These are types of cancer. Tumor is generally isolated. Node is cancer of lymph node and M is spreading metastatic cancer.
