  • Animal cell will rupture
  • Plant cell will swell up(mean it will not rupture)

Explanation:

Let's suppose: we have taken a glass filled with pure water & we place animal cell in it. Now, the intracellular environment of cell has low concentration of water as compared to its extracellular environment which is pretty rich in water. Thus, water molecules will move from their higher concentration #(#from glass#)# to their lower concentration #(#into the cell#)# by crossing the semipermeable membrane of cell. This process is called osmosis. As a result of osmosis, animal cell would become filled up with water. Consequently, water will leak through cell membrane and animal cell will rupture or bursts.

Same will happen with plant cell. But they will not rupture because they have rigid cell wall primarily made up of cellulose(a complex polysaccharide) . When water moves into plant cell by osmosis, the larger Central vacuole gets teemed up with water. This vacuole then presses against cell membrane and cell membrane against cell wall. But plant cell becomes merely turgid. Because cell wall prevents it from bursting because it's tough enough.

Hope it helps...
