They are generally grouped together as Khoisan. They are part of a distinctive language group.

Explanation:

The Khoi people were a pastoral group who adopted the more hunter gatherer ways of the San people probably to deal with a drying climate.

The Khoisan are indigenous to Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa and some areas farther North. They were displaced by the Bantu, Xhosa, and the Dutch in areas in East side of Africa.

There is a distinctive climate, plant biology change south of the Fish River making the plant crops of the Northern areas unsuitable to grow. (Read "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond). The Khoisan or just San people's hunter gather lifestyle was successful here.
