How do I solve this word problem? (7.5% rate with 15% off)

Lotta Cash received a $50 gift card for graduation. She went shopping at the Cheap Shoppe. She bought 2 pairs of shorts at $7.99 each, 3 pairs of flip-flop sandals at $4.50 each, a bottle of suntan lotion at $8.25, a sun hat of $9.89, and 2 bottles of water at $.75 each. She got 15% off for using a gift card instead of a credit card. How much does she have left on her gift card if the tax rate was 7.5%?

#$5.12#

Explanation:

Ignoring all the discounts and the tax rates, she is going to spend

#2\times7.99 + 3\times4.50 + 8.25 + 9.89 + 2\times0.75 = $49.12#

Now she is going to get a 15% discount:

#1-0.15=0.85#

#0.85\times49.12=$41.752# (We won't round any values yet).

However, the tax rate was 7.5%. So she has to pay:

#1.075\times41.752 = 44.8834 \approx $44.88#

So now, if we minus this value from the original $50 in her gift card, we get:

#50 - 44.88 = $5.12#

Hope that makes sense!
