Let one number be #color(red)(x#. Then the other number will be #color(red)(x - 2#

Given sum of the two numbers = 22.

Hence #x + (x - 2) = 22#

Removing the bracket, #x + x - 2 = 22#

#2x - cancel2 +cancel 2 = 22 + 2#, adding 2 to both sides.

#2x = 24# or #x = 24 / 2 = color(green )(12#

Other number is #x - 2 = 12 - 2 = color(green)(10#
