How do you find the scientific notation of a negative number?

Do this the same a you would a positive number. And, after putting it in scientific notation put the negative sign by the leading number.

Example 1:

#-123.456# in scientific notation would be:

#-(123.456) => -(1.23456 xx 10^2) => -1.23456 xx 10^2#

Example 2:

#-0.00123# in scientific notation would be:

#-(0.00123) => -(1.23 xx 10^-3) => -1.23 xx 10^-3#
