Glucose `(C_6H_12O_6)` is then broken down into pyruvate `(C_3H_3O_3^-)`, and then into `"ATP"`, which contains a lot of energy in its phosphate bonds.

Oxygen `(O_2)` is important as it is the basis of cellular respiration (aerobic), and is used in respiration to release energy from `"ATP"` as well, up to `38` molecules!

So, photosynthesis is therefore an extremely important and essential process for plant life.
