We as humans impact the water resources in different ways.
In the poor country, you'll see people throwing trash in the water. Then they will use that same river, ocean, to shower, wash clothes, the animals will drink that same water - so does some people!
Cutting down the trees(deforestation) is also one of the impact of water resources.
Burning things on the ground has also an impact on that.
