Fresh cranberry contains 88% of water and dried 5% of water. How much is the mass of fresh cranberries from which can we get 5 kg of dried cranberries?

Work it out like this:

5Kg of cranberries has 5% water, so amount of water
= #5/100 *5 = 0.25#kg

So the actuat cranberry "flesh" only weighs 4.75Kg
( #5 -0.25=4.75#)

Lets say you now have a fresh mass X kgs, the water content would be
=#88/100 *X = 0.88X#kg

And the cranberrie "flesh' would be =#X-0.88X = 0.12X#

So

#0.12 *X = 4.75#

#X = 4.75/0.12 = 39.58# kg
