Many of the causes of World War 2 are rooted in World War 1 and the peace that followed.

Explanation:

The Treaty of Versailles punished Germany severely for their actions in World War 1. The German Wiemar Government weaken by crushing reparations payments and a destroyed economy wasn't strong enough to control its enemies on the left and right. Large paramilitary organizations arose that could be stronger than the Army. In Germany's case the Army, limited by Treaty commitments, depended on them to help maintain their borders.

The Monarchist Government in Russia was destroyed in World War 1. The new Communist Government represented and spread a new ideology though out Europe. Fascism rose to government in Italy and its ideology spread. These 2 Ideologies began to fight it out in the streets.

The League of Nations created after World War 1 failed to mediate a continuing peace. Ideological Governments with Imperialistic designs began to prey on their neighbors with impunity. There began to be large military build ups. Disarmament efforts often weaken moderate governments and were ignored by aggressive ones.

The specter of a new terrible War, after the horrors of World War 1, frightened people and they began to appease aggressors to avoid another war. The great depression's bad economic times made more people turn to Ideological solutions to their problems.
