In general, how does the characteristic mineral composition of a light colored igneous rock differ from that of a dark colored igneous rock?

Usually they will contain metal elements that oxidise easily. For example, the Igneous rocks on them Moon (the Maria or 'oceans') are darker in colour due to a higher percentage of iron.
