Heat capacity is the amount of heat energy an object can hold before its temperature raises by a given magnitude.
For instance, if you were to heat water and diethyl ether, the former could hold more heat before it started to boil than the latter.
To be sure, water can hold more heat than diethyl ether before its temperature increases.
