Explanation:

After the 1973 Yom Kippur War Anwar Sadat the President of Egypt made overtures to the Israeli for Peace talks. The Yom Kippur War had given the Arabs a very good chance at destroying Israel. It didn't work out for them but it was close.

It redressed the embarrassment of the 6 Day War. Because of this Sadat felt that Egypt could possibly recognize the State of Israel under certain conditions. The Peace talks were mediated by the United States and took place at Camp David a U.S. base and retreat for the President of the U.S.
The talks were successful and a peace deal was signed. Some time later Jordan recognized Israel.

It was an important step towards peace in the Middle East. Likely Sadat was killed because of it. Most of the credit for this initiative should be with Anwar Sadat of Eygpt who showed great personal courage by doing this.
