What is a correlation? and what is a causation/ what is the difference and what are examples of both?

Sorry not very clear but my definition:

correlation can be positive or negative when talking about scatter graphs. If the line of best fit has a positive gradient then the correlation would be positive. So if you plotted the number of ice creams sold against the hours of sunshine in the day you would expect the line of best fit to be positive. The more hours of sunshine the more ice creams sold. A connection between the two variables.

causation one event causes the other like smoking and cancer.

If you are talking about the connection between the two variables if one is linked to the other - good weather and ice cream I would say correlation. If one affects the other smoking and lung cancer then I would say causation.
