What are you felt behind with when you burn magnesium?

What is the reaction on and product when magnesium is burnt? My answer would be that the white powder left behind is called Magnesium Chloride but I want to double check.

#"With what are you left behind...?"#.... Well, #"magnesium oxide..."#

Explanation:

We represent the oxidation of magnesium by the following reaction...

#Mg(s) +1/2O_2(g) rarr underbrace(MgO(s))_"magnesium oxide"#

And so we got an ashy residue of magnesium oxide. And given an accurate mass of the metal, and an accurate mass determination of the ashy residue, we could certainly calculate the empirical formula of magnesium oxide.....
