Now supposing (somehow) you had 24, i.e. 2 dozen, potassium nitrate formula units. Would you not agree that these 2 dozen particles would gives 48, i.e. four dozen ions...2 dozen potassium ions, and 2 dozen nitrate ions...?
And here we go from a dozen to a mole, i.e.
