Why did the Vietnamese communist forces turn out to be more effective than technologically superior army of the us?

They used guerrilla warfare

Explanation:

There was no direct confrontation between the Vietcong and the American army. The American army had far superior means and used a tremendous amount of violence(napalm and agent orange). Free fire zones were created in which everyone was to be killed including civilians. The war was not symmetrical and strong opposition at home destabilized the superpower.

The Vietnamese communists also had the support of the USSR and were given massive amounts of weapons.
