Polk was a Democrat who expanded after the War with Mexico which occurred between 1846 and 1848 and it meant that the USA expanded its territory to the whole SouthWest encompassing Arizona, California, Utah, New Mexico, , Nevada and parts of Oklahoma, Colorado and Wyoming. Mexico was only given 15 million dollars as a form of compensation and the Rio Grande became the official border between Mexico and the USA.
