I haven't got a very thorough explanation because it is quite simple.

Think about it with apples and pears (very basic).

If a have 1 apple and 1 pear. You get an apple and a pear.

If you double each variable eg. 2 apples and 2pears you will get an end product that is double of the other one.

4 fruits = DOUBLE of 2 fruits.
