Telescopes collect more light than your eye and creates a magnified image.
Explanation:
The objective(lens or mirror) collects light and is send to an eye by a diagonal mirror piece which work to enlarge the image .There are mostly 2 type of telescopes. Refractor and reflectors./THe focal length of objective divided by FL of eye piece is the magnifying power of a telescope.! Both types are shown in picture
