Sodium chloride NaCl and magnisium dichloride MgCl_2

Explanation:

Ionic compounds can be identified by the difference in electronegativity of each atom. When the difference in electronegativity is >=2 it would be identified as an ionic bond.
E.g. for sodium chloride which consists of sodium ions and chloride ions. Here the electronegativity of sodium is 0.93 and for Chloride it is 3.16. We see that:
3.16-0.93=2.23

Giving an ionic bond.

An easy way to see what atoms rather would form ionic bonds is to identify its position in the ptable. If its a metal it would have a low electronegativity and if its an halogen it would have a high electronegativit.
