Ionic bonds are bonds formed between a cation and anion.
Explanation:
Ion : An ion is a charged particle which is formed due to the gain or loss of one or more electrons by an atom.
Electropositive element : A metallic element whose one readily loses electron(s) to form a positively charged ion, is an electropositive element.
Electronegative element : A non metallic element whose one atom readily gains electron(s) to form a negatively charged ion, is an electronegative element.
An ionic bond can also be defined as the bond formed by the transfer of electrons from a metallic element/electopositive element to a non metallic element/electonegative element.
