The inflammation of the pericardium is called as pericarditis.

Explanation:

Symptoms include sudden onset of sharp chest pain. The pain may resemble the pain of angina pectoris (or heart attack) but differs in the fact that if changes with change in body position. The pain is also felt in the shoulders, neck or back. Very typically the pain gets worse while lying down or breathing deep.

Other symptoms of pericarditis may include dry cough, fever, fatigue and anxiety. The onset of symptoms may be gradual at times and also include palpitations and shortness of breath.
