The steps followed for the extraction of copper :-

Copper is extracted from its ore by heating it with oxygen.

`Cu_(2)S + O_2 => Cu_(2)O + SO_2`

This process of heating of metal below its melting point in the presence of air is called as roasting.

The second step is:- Auto reduction of copper.

`Cu_(2)S+Cu_(2)O=> Cu+SO_2`

Thus the pure metal copper is obtained from its ore of Copper sulphide.

It is also extracted through another process called as electrolytic reduction.
