An interjection is an exclamation that is not related to the rest of the sentence in any way.
Explanation:
Interjections are words used to display emotion or feeling. They can be used alone, or in sentences, but they are never grammatically related to the rest of the sentence. Some examples of common interjections are:
- Oh
- Congrats
- Alas
- Yeah
- Oops
- Huh
Interjections are often set off with an exclamation mark, making it its own "sentence". But they can also just be at the beginning or end of a sentence:
- Oh how beautiful is the sunrise!
- Congrats! You're now an official lawyer.
- Alas, life loves to turn things around in an instant.
- Yeah, that's a wonderful idea!
- Oops! I didn't mean to make you spill that.
- These homemade cookies sure are good, huh?
