Coins.

Explanation:

Gold and silver coins have been found which date to the reign of Chandragupta I, the third ruler of the Gupta dynasty (320 to 480 AD). So many gold coins from this empire have been discovered that it has been nicknamed the "Rain of Gold", a pun on the word "reign".

The first cache of gold Gupta coins was discovered in Calcutta in 1783. It is mostly through inscriptions on coins that the names of the Gupta rulers were rediscovered after having been lost to history for centuries.
